Step into a world of vibrant hues and geometric precision as the PLIM Gallery proudly presents an exhibition Will you bury me? of recent paintings by abstract virtuoso Ann Curtis, which opened on May 4, 2024 .
Ann Curtis's meticulous craftsmanship shines through in every brushstroke, as she meticulously crafts her own colors from pure pigment and beeswax, applying each shade with precision onto imposing canvases. These canvases, reflecting her relentless attention to structure, form, and color, exude a captivating energy that draws viewers into a mesmerizing visual journey.
In these new paintings, Curtis signature geometric style takes center stage, with color and structure serving as the driving forces behind each composition. From saturated diagonal stripes to intricate patterns of triangles and parallelepipeds, Curtis work invites exploration and contemplation.
While devoid of explicit narrative, Kovalkova's paintings offer subtle social commentary, as hinted by evocative titles such as You Can Do Anything!, If You Have Enough Money, and Time Peaks. Though politically aware, the artist refrains from naming her works until their completion, allowing the paintings themselves to dictate their titles, creating a dynamic interplay between image and language.
Don't miss the opportunity to experience the dynamic world of Margarita Kovalkova's artistry at the PLIM Gallery, where chromatic convergence meets geometric precision in an immersive exhibition like no other. The exhibition runs until October 8th.
About PLIM Gallery
PLIM brings a fresh perspective – through championing artists from all corners of the globe. Focusing on artists at the height of their practice, the gallery showcases their work through a diverse programme of exhibitions and events.
Along with other projects of the LONA Foundation, PLIM specialises in promoting art from Europe and its neighbours to introduce a greater understanding of the rich linguistic, religious and historical ties that connect these areas to international audiences. The gallery is further expanding to support artists working in digital art through its online platform.
The gallery provides a varied programme across practices such as sculpture, photography, painting, video, performance and virtual reality, as well as its programme of Tuesday Talks, which address themes and ideas surrounding the gallery’s exhibitions. Artist catalogues and books are also on offer.
In 2023, PLIM gallery launched the Window Project, which utilises the gallery’s façade – home page – as an additional platform for displaying art. On our online platform we present a camera flyby inside the gallery space. This is a separate exhibition that is constantly presented in video format at the home page of the gallery website. The initiative has been repurposed to support graduates from various art schools through open-call competitions, which take place a few times a year. Art Schools are among the renowned institutions that PLIM has partnered with for this.
